The RAPID MERLOT™ Hybrid is the very popular and beautiful tree that is named after its prominent maroon color that will make you think of a fine MERLOT™ Wine. This fast growing clone has deep green/maroon colored leaves, with the purple or maroon color more showy in the spring and fall. The color may vary with different growing sites.

The RAPID MERLOT™ Hybrid was designed for hedges or colored windbreaks, but has many uses in general landscaping.

These trees were released in the U.S. in 1995 after a two year quarantine and they are now approved by the U.S.D.A.. Rocky Mountatain AUSTREE® has made them available to our customers in limited quantities since the spring of 1996. The trees come packaged 5 trees per bundle and are five to six feet tall with multiple stems. It is not suitable as a single trunked shade tree, but the canopy of the RAPID MERLOT™ Hybrid will give the homeowner plenty of shade as the trees get tall and full.
